Jesus the Messiah

The word Messiah is Hebrew for “the anointed,” also denoting such terms as “king” and “deliverer.” Christ is the Greek equivalent of Messiah.The Jews eagerly awaited the coming of their Messiah, but many were looking only for deliverance from the Roman Empire. When Jesus Christ came to deliver people from sin and death, not the Romans, most people rejected him. Only the humble and faithful were able to see Jesus as the Messiah they had been waiting for.

The term Messiah is used only three times in the King James Version of the Bible; in Daniel 9: 25-26, John 1:41, and John 4:25. The reason is most likely because the Bible was translated into Greek and Messiah was most often replaced with Christ. The term Messiah is used much more often in the Book of Mormon.
